A funeral service for Marie Miller was held Saturday, May 4, at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Burial was at Lakeview Cemetery.

Marie Evelyn Miller was born March 10, 1911, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Olaf and Mabel (Morey) Martinson. She moved to Montgomery when she was nine years old and then to Spirit Lake where she graduated from Spirit Lake High School. She continued her education at a teacher's college in Mankato, Minn. She taught in two country schools and also at Orleans School.

On March 6, 1937, Marie was united in marriage to John Earl Miller in Orleans. Marie went on many tour bus trips in interesting places and events. Marie enjoyed gardening, tending her yard, reading and working on word puzzles. She raised large numbers of chickens and sold eggs to friends. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Church Circle, Dickinson County Pink Ladies and the Neighborhood Friendship Club.

Marie moved to Hilltop Care Center in 2002. While there, she was always on the move in her wheelchair greeting everyone up and down the halls. Marie passed away April 30, 2013, at Hilltop at 102 years of age.

She is survived by son, Marvin (Joyce) Miller of Spirit Lake and David (Rhonda) Miller of Eden Prairie, Minn.; grandchildren, John (Michelle) Colshan, Laura Frye (Damon Shrunk), Sara (Joel) Fisher, Jenni (Brent) Eckman and Brent (Angela) Jurkovski; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Courtney Colshan, Colton Frye, Samantha Shrunk, Emma and Evan Fisher, William, Madison and Caden Jurkovski and Finley Eckman; one brother, Robert "Bud" (Doris) Martinson of Phoenix, Ariz. and one sister, Betty Jean Merkert of Omaha, Neb.; many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; granddaughter, Robin Colshan; daughter, Roberta and her husband Richard Colshan; brother-in-law, Ted Merkert.
