DEATH of MRS. GALLOWAY-----------We are pained to announce the death of Mrs. Martha Galloway, relic of the late Maj. James Galloway, which occurred at her residence in this place on the 9th Inst, in the 71st year of her age. Mrs. Galloway was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, November 1, 1782. She was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Patterson) Townsley who died in Xenia in 1841, at an advanced age. Mrs. Galloway removed with her parents from Pennsylvania to Scott County, Kentucky in 1790. In 1800 they removed to Greene County, and in 1806 she was married to Maj. Galloway. The connection continued for 44 years. She was the mother of ten children, six of whom are still living. Since 1813, she had resided in Xenia, and had been a witness of the growth of the State from a wilderness to its present prosperous condition. For over 50 years she was a consistent and efficient member of the Christian Church. Since its first organization, she had been a devoted and liberal member of the Colonization Society, and was a life member at the time of her death. During the long residence of Mrs. Galloway in Xenia she made for herself a large host of devoted friends. Her philanthropy, her kindness of heart and her benevolence were proverbial, and her memory will long be cherished not only by those who enjoyed the pleasure of her acquaintance, but by all who have appealed to her generosity. Her funeral, on Saturday last, was one of the largest we have ever witnessed in Xenia, attended not only by our own citizens generally, but also by friends from Cincinnati, Dayton and other places.
