Nell told me on the phone that she was named for family friend and Virginia native, Confederate Major General James Ewell Brown "Jeb" Stuart (February 6, 1833 - May 12, 1864).

For the two years before her wedding, the bride was librarian in the high school at Lewes, Delaware, where the bride met her groom and where they resided after the wedding.
Mr. Burton was graduated from the Lewes High School and later from the Pierce Business College in Philadelphia.

Nell Stuart Bloxton, 90, of Cherokee Village died July 28, 2006, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas.
She was born on "Ground Hog Day," Feb. 2, 1916, Williamsburg, VA, at home, the daughter of the late William Moncure Ashby Bloxton and Adelaide Lee (Everett) Bloxton. She grew to be 5'6" tall.
Attended Appomattox, VA school 1 yr & Danville, VA school 1 year, while her mother taught school at those two locations, then Blackstone Boarding School for Girls, Blackstone, VA (3 years) with her sister, Betty. They may be in this 1929 group photo of fellow members of the Richmond Tidewater Club at Blackstone College.
Attended Greenville, NC high school her Senior year, and lived on ECU campus with her mom that year. B.S. degree in English after 4 years at the College of William & Mary, and B.S. in Library Science after 5th year there. In 1933, she was a member of the Library Science Club; in 1937, the German Club at the College of William & Mary (they spelled her name "Nelly".) Attended University of Tennessee the next summer while her mother was there doing graduate work. Lived one summer with her mom & Betty at University of North Carolina while they attended, but she did not. H.S. Librarian two years, Chester, VA; two years, Lewes, DE (where she met her husband -- married less than a year -- divorced in 1942), then she joined Army Special Services (Library), wore ASS uniform -- first camp, stationed Sutton, NC; second, stationed Camp Buttner, Columbia, SC; third, Point of Embarkation, Charleston, SC, then overseas for 16 months to Guam, Iwo Jima, and Johnson Islands. Worked temporarily for a few months with a friend at Medical Library, VA Hospital, Topeka, KS, before landing the job where she traveled extensively as Chief Librarian, Ft. Riley, KS, from about 1944 until she retired in 1977 (she was unable to attend their 150th Anniversary in 2003). Notable trainees at Ft. Riley included heavyweight boxing champion, Joe Louis, and movie stars such as Mickey Rooney. Nell was listed in the Who's Who of American Women in the early 1960s. In 1977, she retired to Cherokee Village, near Batesville, AR, (five lakes and two golf courses), where she lived for over 30 years. She was a volunteer at Eastern Ozarks Hospital, active in the Ladies Golf Association, and an avid golfer & tennis player until 1997-1998 (knee injury) and 2000 (herniated disk in her back.) She was a member of Spring River Presbyterian Church, Hardy, AR, where her services were held.
At the time of her death in 2006, survivors included one sister, Betty Bloxton Orrick of Oak Ridge, TN (deceased in 2011); two nephews, Herbert Paul Orrick of Morristown, NJ, and Nicholas Cromwell Orrick of Maryland; and one niece, Katherine Stuart Orrick of Oak Ridge, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her niece, Betty Orrick Sapp, who died in an avalanche while mountain climbing.
Memorial services for Nell Bloxton were held Aug. 14, 2006 at the Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy with Rev. Stanley Jagow officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
