Mr. Lawrence Wiersma, age 78, of Orange City, passed away Monday, January 28, at the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City.
Funeral services were held Thurs., Jan. 31, at 1:30 p.m. at the Free Grace Reformed Church of Middleburg, with the Rev. Jeffery Tayrol officiating. Interment followed at the Capel Township Cemetery near Middleburg, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
Lawrence was born July 1, 1912, in rural Orange City, the son of Gardie and Margaret (Plender) Wiersma. He farmed north of Orange City, retiring into town several years ago.
In Feb. of 1989, he became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home.
He served in the army in WWII. He was a member of the Free Grace Reformed Church of Middleburg.
Survivors include two brothers and a sister, John and his wife Dorothy, of Hospers; Florence, and her husband, Ralph Van Zyl, of Orange City; and Harvey and his wife, Jessie, of Rock Rapids; and nephews and nieces.
