According to the Ancestry.com collection for the New Castle News (New Castle, Pennsylvania), the funeral notice for Vance Holmes Macom appeared in the New Castle News, New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, 3 April 1901, Page 19, Column 3, as follows:
"LAID TO REST.
"The remains of Vance Holmes Macom were laid to rest in the Harlansburg cemetery Monday afternoon. Mr. Macom died Saturday at the home of his son, Henry Macom, of Harlansburg, aged 79 years. He was of Irish descent and had three brothers and two sisters, all of whom are dead with the exception of two brothers, Nathaniel and William J. In 1847 he was married to Miss Mary Clark and was the father of ten children, two of whom are dead. Those living are Henry, George, William, James, Mrs. W. E. Patterson, Mrs. Susan Carlon, Mrs. John McCracken and Mrs. A. A. Eppinger. The services were held in the Harlansburg Presbyterian church, of which he was a consistent member, at 2 o'clock Monday."
Note that his middle name was Holmes, which was the maiden name of his mother.
