Arlene was born April 26, 1941, in Rupert, Idaho, the daughter of John and Lil Hirning. She worked for many years in the Hirning Cafe, the family owned business in downtown Rupert.
She married the love of her life, Ronald "Gus" Gerleman on June 13, 1958, and together they raised four children. Their home was always open to anyone who needed a home and a family to be a part of.
Later in life, Arlene fulfilled her lifelong dream of going to college and, when she was 46, she fully realized this dream when she earned a degree in secondary education. She taught at East Minico Junior High and then moved to Rawlins, Wyo., in 1991, where she taught for 10 years before retiring due to health problems.
Gus and Arlene then moved to Denver, Colo. in 2001 to be near family, and she continued living there until her passing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gus; two daughters, Rhonda and Renae; and one grandson, Ryan Klier.
She is survived by a brother, Art Hirning, of Pocatello, Idaho; two sons, Arlan Gerleman, of Pocatello, Idaho, and Michael (Becky) Gerleman, of Plano, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at 1:15 p.m. Friday, May 17, at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18, at Valley View Christian Church, 11004 Wildfield Lane in Littleton, Colo.
