Fred Christopher Jr. 75, of 10 Brook St., Waynesville, died Sunday, Jan.16, 2000, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Fred Simmons and Willie Penland Christopher. He was an employee of Chrysler Corp. and a member of the Baptist faith. He was a World War II Navy veteran having served on the USS North Carolina and the USS New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Lisa Gale Christopher; and a great-granddaughter, Melissa Gale Bullington.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Jean Hartsell Christopher; two daughters, Patricia Ann Holcombe and her husband, John, of Morganton, and Sharon Kay Moore and her husband, Mike, of Waynesville; three sons, Jerry Dale Christopher and his wife, Carolyn, of Maggie Valley, Doyle Gene Christopher and his wife, Debbie, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Donnie Grant Christopher of Kannapolis; one brother, Joe Christopher of Waynesville; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. The Rev. Don Letzring officiated. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Webb, Tommy Davis, Doug, Gene and Greg Christopher, Gene Rogers and Johnny Plott.
