Died, in this Village, on Monday last, the 13th inst. [October] Mr. Jonathan Stevens, aged 75 years; lately from Madison (Co.), in the State of New York.

Jonathan Stevens came to Monroe, MI with wife, Lucy, in spring of 1834 to join with son, Jonathan Worthy Stevens, who moved to the area from Cuyahoga Co. OH. Born in Southwick, MA he was an early settler of Hamilton, Madison Co. NY where he spent most of his adult life. He was a Deacon in the Congregational Church and a "man of much force of character." Jonathan and Lucy had ten children together, 3 sons and 7 daughters. He was a blacksmith and a farmer.
