George was the son of George W. Hoke and Maria (McKown) Hoke.

George [1st] married Mary Catharine (Spillman) Hoke (18 Sept 1863 - 22 June 1895) on 15 June 1893 in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Frederick Spillman (1827-1908) and Susan Catherine (Snook) Spillman (1837-1917).

George [2nd] married Jane Maybury (Boyd) Hoke (26 Nov 1873 - 8 June 1953) on 1 Dec 1897 in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia. His occupation was a "traveling salesman" at the time of their marriage.

In the 1900 U.S. Census, George and Jane were living in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia, and he was a "dry goods merchant."

In the 1910 U.S. Census, George was lodging in Seattle, King County, Washington, and he was a "salesman." George was married at that time; probably still to Jane as she was married in 1910 too. George and Jane eventually divorced.

In the 1930 U.S. Census, George may have been boarding in Follett, Lipscomb County, Texas.

George's wife was named Mary at the time of his death. His occupation was "sales promotion."
