Paul Ackland, 84, of Waverly, N.Y., passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. He was born on December 19, 1928 in Scranton, Pa., the son of Fred and Pearl Ord Ackland.

Paul was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1946. He attended Keystone Junior College from 1946 until 1948 and Penn State College from 1948 until 1950. He worked for Bendiz Corporation from 1952 until 1956 and was then employed by I.B.M. from 1956 until his retirement in 1984.

Paul married Kay J. Christian on March 3, 1951, They moved to Waverly, N.Y., in 1957.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

His interests included camping, square dancing with the Penny Promenaders Square Dancing Club and reading. Following his retirement, Paul and his wife also looked forward to spending several winter months each year in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was also an active member of the Waverly United Methodist Church.

Paul was predeceased by his wife, Kay Ackland; sister-inlaw Gail Johnson; and his brother-in-law's Gerald Johnson and Bill Burgess.

He is survived by his children: Lorraine Ann Scrivener, David Paul Ackland and Lynda Kay Lynch, all of Waverly, N.Y.; grandsons Kyle Christian Ackland and fiancé Hope Johnston of Sayre, Pa., Samuel David Ackland and wife Megan of Watertown, N.Y., Shawn Paul Scrivener and wife Kari of Great Falls, Mont., Jeffrey Paul Lynch and Charles Lynch, both of Waverly, N.Y.; sister-in-law Gwen Christian Burgess and long time companion Brian Van Auken, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8 at 10 a.m. at the Luckner Funeral Home, 449 Park Ave., Waverly.

Pastor Anne Canfield of the Waverly United Methodist Church will officiate.

Friends are invited to call Tuesday, May 7 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Internment will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery. Those wishing may direct memorial donations to the Waverly United Methodist Church.
