Ella was the daughter of Edward Raum Henson (26 Mar 1850 - 2 Aug 1924) and Ada Frances (Laise) Henson (30 Jan 1854 - 22 Dec 1937).

Ella married James William Stewart Strong (9 May 1873 - 28 Jan 1924) on 27 Nov 1919 in Loudoun County, Virginia, as his third wife.

In the 1930 and 1940 U.S. Censuses, the widowed Ella was living in Berkeley County, West Virginia, with the family of her step-daughter, Katherine Tilton (Strong) Cline (1896-1975).
