Dog Buried With Master
A man and a dog were buried in the same grave in Woodlawn cemetery Monday afternoon.
For sixteen years they had been inseperable pals, sharing each other's joys and sorrows. The man was Isaac Bart Ryan, 74 years old, a kindling peddler. The dog was Barney, 16 years old. Ryan lived at Ohio avenue and James street.
A fire of undetermined origin in Ryan's home ended the lives of both early Sunday morning. When firemen found the bodies, the indications pointed clearly to a desperate attempt on the part of Barney to save his masters life. Failing in this he too perished.
In a neatly made casket of pine boards, the body of Barney was lowered into the same final resting place as his friend and master. Out of a profusion of flowers one special bouquet was placed on the dog's casket.
Mrs. Ida Mack, 313 Walker avenue, deemed it proper to bury them together in view of the companionship that ended only in death. (Kansas City Kansas)
