Frances E. Sproul, the daughter of John Sproul and Matilda King Scott, married William White, the son of Joseph White and Ann Johnston, in Augusta Co., VA on 5 Sep 1844, Rev. Francis McFarland, officiating. A 2nd source source says they married on the 15th instead, at Bethel.

They had 8 White children (per William's obit):

On the 1850 Lexington, VA census, I found merchant William White, 36; Frances E White, 25; John White, 4; Joseph White, 2; Matilda White, 2/12 and merchant Alfred Gold, 16, all VA born. They lived next to Mathew White.

On the 1860 Lexington, VA census, I found merchant Wm White, 47; Fanny E, 35; John S, 14; Joseph, 12; Matilda S, 9; William, 6 and Alex S, 4, all VA born.

On the 1870 Lexington, VA census, I found dry goods merchant William White, 56; F E White, 46; John White, 24; Joseph White, 22; Lotta White, 20; W S White, 16; Archd White, 13; Anna White, 6; Isaac Scott, 18 and Frank Lewis, 18, all VA born.

Frances dies 26 Mar 1879.

Her obit in the 1 Apr 1879 issue of the Staunton Spectator says: DEATHS, "WHITE - At the residence of her husband in Lexington, Rockbridge co., at 10 o'clock on Wednesday night, March 26th, Mrs. Frances White, wife of Mr. Wm. White."

On the 1880 Lexington, VA census, I found widower and retired merchant William G. White, 69; sons/daughters: Margaret E, 34; general merchant William H, 33; Annie, 30; Clara, 28 and store clerk Robert, 26, all VA born.

Her husband William White died in 1897, his obit is in The Staunton Spectator & Vindicator, 29 Jul 1897 (photo on his memorial), which has data on their family.
