She died Monday, Aug. 6, 2002.
She was born May 12, 1919, in Floyd County. She attended Floydada High School. She married Elbert B. Custer on July 6, 1936, in Matador. He died March 20, 1993. They moved to Slaton in 1937.
She was co-owner of Custer's Gulf from 1950 until 1979. She worked for the Slaton Independent School District cafeteria systems for more than 40 years, retiring as director in 1992. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, J.W. "Butch," on Feb. 3, 1968, and a grandson on Oct. 3, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Rose Marie Eakin of Slaton; a sister, Margaret Beck of Waco; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
