The John Henry Bell family had a family connection to the Berry family. There are several family corresponds between the two Families. Some of the Berry names that were stated in the letters were Uncle George W Berry, Uncle Thomas and David Berry as well as a Lida. In the 1850 Clark Co Census John Henry Bell was living with Thomas J Berry, John H Bell was listed at the age 24 and his occupation was listed as a carpenter.
In a Civil war document of exemption John was stated as being disabled and unfit for military duty on Oct 12 1864. He was listed as still living in Clark Co at that time.
In 1875 John moved to Shelby Co Kentucky and bought a farm from one Abner Smith. The farm is on Hi Way 395 near Elmburg at one time this land was sold by Squire Boone to the Low Dutch Colony.
The house on the farm was a large red brick and it had a full basement under the first floor. It was two stories tall but there was no 2nd floor above the kitchen. The top floor had 3 bedrooms. The first floor had a hall that went from one side of the house to the other. To the right of the hall was the dining room that also was from outer wall to outer wall. To the right of the dining room was the kitchen. The kitchen had four steps going down into it. To the left of the hall was the parlor and in back of it was a 4th bedroom. All of the rooms where large and the hall was as big as the parlor.
The house was gone by the 1960s.
