Emery Bond, son of Henry and Susannah (Cashman)Bond was born near Herman, Knox Co., Illinois, 30 Nov 1858. Died as his home south of DeSoto, Iowa, 29 Jan 1915, age 56 years, 1 month, 29 days. He lived at his fathers home umntil he was married to Ella Francis Headley on 27 Dec 1883, remaining near Herman for two years, they then moved to Colby, Kansas in 1886, [grasshopper years] where they underwent trials and hardships of pioneer life for ten years, they then moved to a farm near Pitzer, Iowa. The lived near this place until 8 years ago when they moved to the present home, generally known as the Gudlif Brooker farm. To their union was born 4 children, Eva Bell Jones of Stuart, Glenn Emory of Guthrie Center, Henry Arthur and Claude Isaac who ramained at home. Besides the immediate family he leaves and aged father, Henry Bond, his mother having preceded him 12 years, two sisters, Mrs. Belle Trumbull, and Miss Odessa Bond all of Abingdon, Illinois, and the brother Charlie Bond of Galesburg, Illinois, all being present at the funeral besides a host of other relatives. His sudden death was a sad schock to many hearts and leaves the family plunged in deep sorrow. Two years ago last October he was stricken with paralysis from which he never fully recovered at times being in a pitable condition. He and his wife returned from Downs,Kansas Tuesday the 26th, where they had gone to attend the funeral of her aged mother, who passed away the 18th, Mr. Bond seemingly in his usual health. Thursday, 28th he went to DeSoto on business in connection with his coming public sale. Apparently he had another stroke just as he reached home about 7 p.m., hearing him drive up his son Claude went out, he told him to call Arthur as he had fallen and could not get up. After he was brought in the house he said he was cold which were his last words as he lost consciousness and passed away about 2:00 o'clock. Soon after his marriage he with his wife started to live the Christian life, he was a loving dutiful father and husband. His neighbors say of him, "He had no enemy." He was universally loved and esteemed by all who knew him, a friend who could be depended upon at all times. He leaves a place in his home and circle of friends that can not be filled, they will ever remember him with gratitude and affection. The funeral service were held in the Christian church at DeSoto, Iowa, Sunday morning at 10:30 conducted by a formeer pastor Rev. E.L. Smith of Des Moines, the remains were taken to Stuart for burial where the family intende to reside. At conclusiion of the service at the cemetery the grave was banked with beautiful flowers from relatives and friends at Stuart and DeSoto.
