Goldie Handy Martin, 88, formerly of 405 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Tony's Extended Years in Martinsville.
She was born May 18, 1921, in Patrick County to Martin Lewis and Sarah Vipperman Handy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George L. Martin in 1985; four brothers, Ray Handy, Willie Handy, Charlie Handy and Herbert Handy; and a sister, Ruby Hayes.
She retired from American Furniture Co. with over 20 years of service. She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Bollings of Martinsville; three sons, Fred Martin of Martinsville, Paul Martin of Henryville, Ind., and H. Lee Martin of Bowling Green, Ky.; a sister, Ocie Coleman of Richmond; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Revs. Haywood Alcorn and Tony Lundy officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Brenda Bollings at 410 St. Johns Circle, Martinsville.
