Catharine D. "Katie" Ralph, 62, of West Point, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 1960, at Memorial Hospital in West Point.

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, at the Ray J. Smith Mortuary in West Point. The Rev. George P. Krebs officiated. Pallbearers were Gus Engelhardt, Edward Lemke, Ira Grunke, Edward Ortmeier, Walter Brockmann and Robert Brockmann. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, West Point, Nebraska.

Catharine Dorothea Rahlf was born June 12, 1873, in Burg, Island of Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Nicolaus and Catharina (Tiedgen) Rahlf. She came with her parents to the United States and settled on a farm in Cuming County. The surname Rahlf became Ralph in the United States. She used the name Katie during her lifetime. She married Gustave E. Grunke on September 9, 1897, in West Point. Together they farmed in Cuming County, west of West Point.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph and Harry Grunke, both of West Point; two sisters, Ellen Ralph of West Point and Mary (Joseph) Zich of Omaha; and one brother, Dr. Carl Ralph of Los Angeles, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister. One brother and one sister died as infants in Germany.

Notes: Her father departed by himself for the United States, arriving in 1888 and settled on a farm in Cuming County, Nebraska near West Point. Catharine, along with her mother, three brothers, Alfred, Heinrich and Carl and three sisters, Maria, Frieda and Elly, all departed for the United States aboard the ship Normannia, arriving in New York on May 31, 1890, and joined their father on the farm near West Point.
