John R. Alexander, age 80, of North Rd., Town of Wilson, died Monday, December 1, 2008 in the Intercommunity Memorial Hospital, in Newfane, after a long illness.John was born July 17, 1928 in Madera, PA, the son of the late John R., Sr. and Susie (Davis) Alexander. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving from 1945 to 1947. On June 18, 1948, he married Myrtle I. (Stephens) Alexander and they moved to Western NY in 1952 and to the Town of Wilson in 1954. John was employed by the General Motors Chevrolet Plant in Tonawanda for 27 years, retiring as a foreman in 1976. For several years he owned and operated Alexander Greenhouses in the Town of Wilson. He enjoyed taking his flowers to the Niagara Falls Market. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Wilson.He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; his children, Miriam (Bruce) Bear of Brandenburg, KY, Lillian (Kevin) Reynolds of Johnson Creek, NY, Douglas (Aura) Alexander of Sadieville, KY, Rodney (Janet) Alexander of Ohio, Jack (Yvonne) Alexander of Medina, OH, Colleen (late Ira) Clouser and Robin Zapp, both of Newfane; 19 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Holes of Mahaffey, PA; three nephews, Donald, Thomas and Gary Holes; and a niece, Nancy Holes.Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5th at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeffrey E. Durham officiating. Burial will follow in the North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
