Lawrence Emil Harnack was born on July 13, 1916 to Arthur and Ellie (Dreckman) Harnack in Howard County, IA. Lawrence and Margie Aleshire were united in marriage on November 9, 1941, in Long Prairie, MN. Lawrence made his home on a farm northwest of Eagle Bend for the last 64 years. In his lifetime he cut cord wood, milked cows, had a portable feed mill, and drove trucks to and from South St. Paul, and was a member of the Farmers Union. At age 75, he sold his milk cows and started raising Herford beef cattle which he still took care of until his death. He loved his cattle, soil and all aspects of farming. The Harnack get-togethers and reunions meant a lot to him, along with the joy that came when the kids and grandkids came to help him on the farm. His interests included old tractors, using his sawmill, going to threshing shows, and visiting with family and friends.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Margie in 1979; son Loren; daughter Carmen Kay; parents Arthur and Ellie; brothers Arnold Harnack; and sisters Violet Galligan, Leona Underser, Elsie Warren and Myrtle Brooks.

He is survived by sons Dwayne (Anita) of Londsdale, David (Joy) of Bertha, Randy (Lauren) of Alabama, Rodney of Little Falls; daughters Mardel Faiella of Little Falls, DeVona (Richard) Hlatky, Berdina (Bob) Parks and Debbie (Gordy) Bartels all of Eagle Bend; 22 grandchildren & 26 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Harnack, Andrew Harnack, and Lawrence's granddaughters.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Hlatky, John Hlatky, Justin Hlatky, Ben Harnack, Allen Parks, Chris Harnack, and Brandon Harnack.

Burial will be in the Eagle Bend Cemetery.
