Elmer Holstien, Jr was born October 15, 1937 in Jennings, Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Elmer Holstien, Sr. and Ruby Essie Mae Goins.He graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont, Texas in May 1956 and enlisted in the US Navy June 7, 1956. Elmer obtained a Bachelor's degree in Health Care Services from So. Illinois University and retired from the U.S.Navy as a Lieutenant Commander on June 1, 1982.
Preceding Elmer in death are his father Elmer Holstien,Sr, mother Ruby Goins, and brother Frank Holstien.
Suvivors include wife Delores Holstien, 3 children-Mary Catherine Holstien, Bruce Holstien,and Michael E Holstien.Other survivors are brother, Eddie Holstien of Dallas, Texas, sister Lydia Holstien Smith of Beaumont, Texas.

Elmer enjoyed doing research on the Holstien family. He wrote a book, entitled Moses Holstien and Decendants in Texas. Emphasis was placed on four generations beginning with Moses and the succeeding three lines of descent.

Elmer chose to have no funeral service. He was cremated and buried in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
