He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Willard G. and Cora Setzer Murphy. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Joel and Don Murphy. Mr. Murphy retired from Sears in Charlotte. He was a US Air Force Veteran. He was an active lifelong member of North Belmont Church of God where he held the offices of Trustee, Elder and Sunday School Teacher among others. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Geraldine Rowland Murphy. 2 daughters Teresa M. McCarter and husband Rob of Belmont and Renae M. Auten and husband Kim of Mount Holly. 1 son Chris Murphy and wife Courtney of Mount Holly. 3 grandchildren Brian Anderson, Luke Auten and Jake Murphy. 1 great grandchild Braeden Anderson. 3 nephews Gary, Mike and Robbie Murphy.
