Her friends called her Mabel, her husband called her Mae. She was a member of the Pine Castle Baptist Church and attended church at least five or six times a week. She taught Sunday school to teenagers and they loved her. Her home was always open to visitors and every Sunday she would bring home one or two homesick young men who were stationed at McCoy Air Force Base for a home-cooked Sunday dinner.
