Many friends in the Traer community were distressed by news of the death of J. W. (Jim) Logan, local businessman, about 4 o'clock Wednesday morning in St. Francis hospital, Waterloo. He had submitted to an operation last week and was believed to be making a favorable recovery. On Tuesday morning of this week, he suffered a serious relapse, apparently by a heart ailment, and not from complications resulting from the operation. Funeral services are to be held at 1:30 o'clock this Friday afternoon at States Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. C. E. Olney, of the Congregational church. Mrs. A.J . Calderwood Jr. who was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Carl Wilson. Mrs. Anna Byrnes and Mrs. D. H. Hyland will be in charge of flowers. Casket bearers will be A. L. McCarroll, Fred Wieck, John Steffen, Otto F. Moeller, Milo Mochal and Clarence Mellbye. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Logan, a son of John and Marian Logan, was born November 8, 1864 on the farm south of Traer. His mother died when he was less than a year old. And he was reared by his paternal grandmother, Mrs. James Logan. He attended the Traer school graduating in 1904 and for a short time was a rural school teacher. He then attended a business college in Des Moines, and for a time was employed in the Des Moines National bank before returning home to work in the Traer State bank. He was an officer of that Institution many years until its closing in 1931. He then engaged in the real estate and farm loan business in Traer and was active up to the time he went to the hospital last week.
Mr. Logan married Zona Howe, of Marion, Iowa on October 11, 1922, who has been associated with him in business. Surviving with the widow are two half-sisters, Mrs. Helen Buskirk of Ottosen, Iowa and Mrs. Lulu McCreary of Des Moines. A half-brother, John preceded him in death.
