Irene Carolyn Bjerre Lind was born Jan. 8, 1929 in Frederic, Wisc., but at the time lived in Cable, Wisc. Her parents were Charlie and Elsie, who first met while she worked for him at the sawmill he owned. She had two older sisters, Marie and Caryl.

The family moved to Amery, Wisc., for awhile and later settled in Lindstrom, Minn. Irene graduated from Holy Angels Academy in 1947 where she was a flute player in the band. She met Lloyd Thorsen at the VA hospital in Minneapolis and not long after married him on July 2, 1949. They had four children: Frances, Stephen, Susan, and Thomas. They lived in various places in the cities, and later settled in Rush City. Lloyd and Irene divorced in 1965.

While living in Rush City, she met Wilmer Lind. Together, they had a son, John. They married in 1969, and have lived in Rush City ever since. Some of the various jobs Irene had throughout the years were working at an ammunition plant, nursing home, Plastech Company, Thorsen trucking, and her all-time favorite: bar-tending! Some of the various bars she worked at were the Rush Inn, Eagles, and VFW. She was everybody's favorite bartender, because she not only knew what kind of drink you wanted before you opened your mouth to order, but she was also a friend to confide in. She was well-known for her sense of humor and fun-loving ways. Irene was someone who always helped out anyone in need.

In the last few years of her life while living at Rush Oaks, she served as caretaker for the facility. She cleaned, planted flowers, voluntarily drove tenants to their appointments, and ran errands for anyone who needed it.

She enjoyed her grandchildren greatly and was very proud of them all. And they thought the world of her, too! Irene died January 28, 2007 at the University of Minnesota Hospital-Fairview in Mpls. surrounded by her family.

Irene is survived by her husband Wilmer, children Franny Perreault of North Branch, Steve Thorsen of North Branch, Susan Thorsen of Crystal, Tom (Merrie) Thorsen of Forest Lake, John (Kollette) Lind of Rush City, Frank (Linda) Lind of Rush City, Brad (Kathy) Lind of Rush City, 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, her sister Caryl Curtis of Richfield, and many friends.

Preceding Irene Lind in death are her parents Charlie and Elsie Bjerre and her sister Marie (Mike) Cotch.
