Esquire, Sheriff of Worcestershire.

Son of John Culpeper and Elizabeth Sedley, grandson of William Culpeper and Cecily Barrett, William Sedley and Anne Grove.

Husband of Ursula Woodcock, daughter of London Grocer Ralph Woodcock and widow of Solomon Pordage who died in 1599. They married in 1600 and had two sons and two daughters; John, Thomas, Cecily and Frances, the wife of James Medicote. His sons Thomas and John would own the pilgrim ship the "Thomas & John" which carried hundreds of Englanders to the colonies.

Secondly, husband of Eleanor Norwood, daughter of William Norwood and widow of Sir George Blount. Eleanor died in 1624.

Thirdly, he married Anne, the widow of Hugh Goddard of London.

John entered the Middle Temple 1587, and was a member of the Virginia Company 1609 to 1625. John lived at Middlebean Hall, Feckenahm, where the date 1635 still survives on an overhead wooden beam, and the name John Culpeper appears on fragments of the original wainscoting.

John was buried at Hollingbourne, Kent 18 Dec 1635, leaving a will dated 14 Dec 1635, proved 23 Jan 1636. His widow would die at St Giles, Cripplegate, London in 1645.
