ROCKFORD REGISTER STAR, DEC. 31, 2006:

Kenneth D. Austin, 91, passed away Monday, Dec 25, 2006, in Kerrville, Texas. He was born Oct. 24, 1915, in Harrison to Albert and Iva (Knight) Austin. He married Estella Sahy on Sept. 5, 1942, in Fort Benning, Ga.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served with the 21st General Hospital, where he saw service in North Africa and the European Theater. Decoration and citation included Good Conduct Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars.

After an honorable discharge in 1945, he worked at Beloit Iron Works until 1962, then relocating to Littleton, Colo., and then retiring in 1995 to Kerrville, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Estella; daughter, Wanda Austin of Englewood, Colo; son, Randall austin of Grand Junction, Colo,; grandchildren, Amy Wells of Denver, Colo., Brian Austin of Brighton, Colo., Devin Austin of Englewood, Colo., Jerry Austin of Grand Junction, Colo., and Monique Miller of Clifton, Colo.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rodney Austin; a sister, Beulah Henderson; and a brother Leonard Austin.

Graveside service with military honors at 10 A.M. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, in Rockton Township Cemetery. Visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd.
