Sarah and John were married Feb 2, 1869. In 1905, she won an important legal case in the State of Virginia concerning women's rights - for a woman to directly inherit land from their side of the family (instead of the deed being titled to the woman's husband). It was the first case before the court after the State Law had been recently changed; the new law being upheld. Sarah & John had 8 children: Lucy Frances, Ada R, Edgar B, Asa L, "Mamie", Albert C, Paul E, and "William". The Revd.'s Cupp and Markwood performed her funeral at which her nephews served as the pallbearers.
