Born in Giaveno, Italy, a commune (municipality) in the Province of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 30 km west of Turin. Ignacio Pogolotti immigrated to the United States, arriving July 22, 1900 in New York City aboard the La Champagne. He listed his trade as a baker.

Upon his arrival, he traveled to Portland, Oregon. In a few short years, he met Joseph Maylie and a business formed called The French Bakery located in downtown Portland. The business eventually flourished and branched into what became a very successful business called Pierre's French Bakery.

By the 1930's, Pogolotti changed his interests and moved to what was then a rural area beyond the city limits of Portland. There, he became a poultryman, raising and selling chickens from his farmhouse. By the 1960's, his farmhouse and property had become surrounded by suburban sprawl and was remembered for having fallen into a state of dilapidation.

A lifelong single man, he died at age 96 in Portland.
