John was a security guard for the Federal Reserve Bank in Little Rock. He divorced his first wife, Lola Mae Jones, and remarried Claudie Crawley. His children were all born by his first wife.

He lived on Lawson Road near McHenry Creek at the foot of the hill east of Crystal Hill Baptist Church. His father lived across the creek. Lola took the youngest daughter, Geneva, and John kept Margie who was about 15 and the boys, Earnest and Luther. Margie was married at age 17 and Earnest and Luther were left to raise themselves. Luther had ear infections and high fevers as a child. These affected him mentally. He never married and Margie and her family were mainly responsible for him till his death. John, unfortunately, seemed to divorce his children when he divorced Lola.

The creek had a natural spring close to it as well. I remember swimming in the cold creek and the concrete casing around the spring. The area has grown up and no one would believe that a house had once sat there on the side of the mountain. I believe the course of the creek may have also been altered by development in the area.
