WEST SPRINGFIELD - John Joseph Millett, 86, died at Saint Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. He was born in Springfield to the late Mary (Durkin) and Thomas Millett. He was a lifelong resident of West Springfield and graduated from West Springfield High School in 1944. He attended Kents Hill School in Kents Hill, Maine. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Macon. He was an Insurance Underwriter for General Accident Insurance Company, retiring in 1992 after 35 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Thomas The Apostle Parish, West Springfield, MA. John was a West Springfield Town Meeting member for thirty years. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, the West Springfield-Agawam Elks Lodge, the FORM Club and a Friend of the West Springfield Senior Center. John is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (Mulhern) Millett, his three loving children: a son Daniel J. Millett of Hartford, CT, and two daughters, Catherine M. Millett of Princeton, NJ, and Margaret J. Millett of San Jose, CA. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas D. Millett. Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 29 from 4 to 7 pm at Toomey O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St, West Springfield, MA. Funeral services celebrating his life will be on Tuesday, April 30 at 9 am at the Toomey O'Brien Funeral Home; followed by a 10 am Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Thomas The Apostle Parish, Pine St., West Springfield. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Westfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Parish Cupboard, 1023 Main Street, West Springfield, MA 01089 or to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
