Virginia Garrison Coldwell Ward was born on June 27, 1926 in Paris, Texas, to Ralph Raleigh and Harriet Elizabeth Garrison Coldwell and passed away at home in West Monroe, Louisiana, on April 26, 2013. Virginia was a long-time resident of West Monroe.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of West Monroe at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, with Rev. Jon Tellifero officiating. Interment will be at Memory Lawn in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

Virginia was a faithful member and prayer warrior of First United Methodist Church of West Monroe, serving over the years as choir member, youth counselor, teacher, member of the Wesleyan Service Guild and United Methodist Women, and a Stephen minister. She was a retired Ouachita Parish school teacher, teaching most of her years at West Monroe High School. She and Willis were past members of Crosstrailers Square Dance Club and 3-D Round Dance Club, and they taught round dance lessons for several years. She also participated in Senior Olympics.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Willis F. Ward; by daughters Carol Maxey, Mary Wallin and husband Gary, Lee Ann Stapleton and husband Larry, Dinah LaCaze and husband Wesley, and by one son, Robert O. Ward; by sisters Ruby McKeithan, Carolyn Triplett, Adelyn Duke, Martha Pipes and husband Charles, and Babe Cole and her husband Steve; by grandchildren Brad Hunt and wife Sarah, Patricia Lynn Maxey, Matthew Pirkey and wife Dawn, John Pirkey, Randy Ward, Leham Ward, Judith Jurica, Jeff Stapleton, and Misty Hardy; by great-grandchildren Michael Maxey, Jacob Pirkey, Ryan Pirkey, Paige Pirkey, Caley Stapleton, Cari Hardy and Cole Hardy, and by a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Willis F. Ward, Jr., and a sister Mary Joyce Mays.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of West Monroe or to a charity of your choice.
