Julia A. Mings, 91, of Onawa, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting, Iowa.

Mrs. Mings was born January 10, 1906, in Mountain Grove Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Dora Jane (Sluter) Baucom. As an infant she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, with her family. She attended Fremont County Public Schools at Randolph, Iowa. On May 14, 1925, she married Francis Mings at Rockport, Missouri. In the early 40's the couple moved to Monona County. They moved into town in 1965. On August 16, 1982, Mr. Mings died at Dunlap, Iowa.

She had worked for the Thayer Browns, cleaning house and doing yard work; cleaned the Farm Bureau office and the Masonic Lodge, and worked as a cook at the Co-op Cafe. She had been a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home for the past 8 years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa. She loved working with her flowers and in her garden.

Survivors include five sons, Charles "Joe" Mings of Rapids City, South Dakota, James E. Mings of Onawa, Iowa, Edward Mings and his wife, June of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Larry Mings of Grady, Arkansas, and Kenneth Mings and his wife; Irene of Onawa, Iowa; one daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Vredenburgh of Lakewood, Colorado; two daughters-in-law, Ruth Mings of San Diego, California, and Marcella Mings of North Sioux City, South Dakota; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 7 great great- grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Clawson, Ann Baucarn, and Juanita Manrose, all of Shenandoah, Iowa; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Clarence "Bill" Mings and Francis "Jack" Mings; a half sister; an infant sister; one brother; one sister; and two daughters-in-law, Julia and Barbara.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 1997, at the First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating. The organist, Mrs. Daryle Lauritsen, accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, in the selections "Wings of a Dove and "The Old Rugged Cross".

Casket bearers, grandsons, were Greg Mings, Randy Mings, Robert Mings, Kevin Mings, Jim Mings, Bill Mings, Danny Mings and Brad Vredenburgh.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
