Robert A. Gifford, Albina, and their family relocated to Old Tishomingo County before it was divided into the present counties of Prentiss, Alcorn, and Tishomingo. They lived in what is modern day Prentiss County and were listed on the census in the Dry Run Community. Albina died in childbirth in June of 1859 as well as the twins, James and Jane, that she was attempting to deliver.
Following Albina's death at the age of 36, Robert A. Gifford remarried Elizabeth Bussa on 26 February 1860. The couple had 4 sons.
To date, no headstone has been located for Robert A. Gifford, Albina, or the twins she was attempting to deliver at the time of her death. There is some evidence to suggest that their bodies were returned to be buried in Brown (McClintock) Cemetery. If not, they are buried in a unmarked grave in Prentiss County, Mississippi.
Son, Sterling Decauter Gifford, and his wife are buried in Blackland Cemetery in the Blackland community of Prentiss County, Mississippi. Perhaps, he was buried in the same cemetery as his parents were before him, but we may never know for sure. No headstone exists for Sterling and his wife, though their burial is well documented in obituaries and funeral home records.
