Berry, Shirley Mizell, age 74, of South Knoxville, passed away April 26, 2013, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born in Loudon County on June 3, 1938, and was raised in the Greenback and Maryville communities. Shirley graduated from Everett High School in Maryville with the class of 1956 and was very active with the reunion planning committees. After high school, she attended business college and later worked for Coca-Cola Company in Maryville and the Knox County Housing Authority as an Administrative Assistant until she resigned to fulfill her calling as a full-time mother to her children. Later in life, she worked part-time at Easy Elegance in Chapman Square. Shirley accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. She married the love of her life, G. Edward "Eddie" Berry, on June 27, 1958, in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home and was married for 28 years until Eddie's death on November 12, 1986. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her father, Charles Nelson Mizell, and grandson,Andrew Lee Sofield.Her greatest joy was her unfailing love and devotion for her children, grandchildren (who knew her as Nana), and many friends. She touched so many lives with her warm smile and caring spirit. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Tim and Tammy Berry; daughter and son-in-law: Leigh Ann and Bill Sofield; son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Mary Lynn Berry; grandchildren: Paige Berry; Daniel, James, David, and John Sofield; Lauren, Jacob, and Caroline Berry; mother: Martha M. Mizell; several nieces and nephews and loving cousins. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 PM Monday, April 29, 2013, at Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Rev. Charlie McNutt officiating. Family and friends will meet at Mt. Olive Cemetery 2 PM Tuesday, April 30, 2013, for interment services. Pallbearers will be Bill Harper, Mark Medley, Jim Smith, Mike Freels, David Berry, Drew Berry, Philip Mizell, Raymond Mizell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Clark, the graduating class of Everett High School class of 1956 and their spouses, and the employees of Berry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Sevier Heights Baptist Church Television Ministry, 3232 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920.
