GORDA, FLA. - Doug Bowen, age 59, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2005, of a heart attack, in Brush, Colo. Doug was born in Bloomington, Ind., on June 9, 1945, to Jim and Virginia (Johnson) Bowen. He was a 1964 Madison East High School graduate, and earned a food service certificate from Madison Area Technical College. Doug had a varied professional life, he owned and operated Doug's Pizza and later Doug's Inn. He was food service coordinator for Dane County Head Start, baker for Mrs. Bowen's Bakery, machinist for Gisholt, realtor for Mackay Ellis, tour bus driver and handyman, but his true love was driving a truck or semi. The last seven years, Doug drove semi from May through November out of Wisconsin and spent the other five months at Waters Edge RV Resort in Punta Gorda, Fla. with his wife, Sharon and their dog, April Snow. During his lifetime, he enjoyed boating, water and snow skiing, fishing, scuba diving, cooking, eating out and Caribbean cruising. Doug is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon (O'Kane); their son, William (Ann) of Madison; a sister, Barbara (Burell) Rogers of Okeechobee, Fla.; brothers, Jim (Cindy) of McFarland and David (Susie) of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; father-in-law, Clifford O'Kane; sister-in-law, Sara (Sean) McConochie of Waunakee; brothers-in-law, Steve (Vicki) O'Kane of Cambridge and Russell (Laura) O'Kane of Albuquerque, N.M.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and good friends, Dave and Joyce Facklam, Gary Foerster and Mark and Chris Brunner. Funeral services were held at Gunderson East Funeral Home on Saturday, May 14, 2005. "If I should die tomorrow, don't feel bad for me.
