John Davis was a well known author who penned many books about the Kennedy family well as the Bouvier family but he was better known as the first cousin of First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. He also wrote about the Mafia. He was the son of John E. Davis and Maude Bouvier and one of 10 grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. John Vernou Bouvier Jr., residents of East Hampton from the 1920s to the 1940s when the family lived in Lasata, a large house on Further Lane with gardens, a tennis court, and stables in back. His grandfather John H. Davis was a member of the New York Stock Exchange and founder of the private banking firm John H. Davis and Co., one of the oldest brokerage houses on Wall Street, which became Billings, Olcott, and Winsmore in 1920.
He attended private schools, graduated from Princeton and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1953. Through the 1950s and '60s, he studied and taught Italian history and literature at schools in Naples, Italy. A marriage ended in divorce in the early 1970s. His sister was his only immediate survivor.
He is the author of the following books:

The cause of Mr. Davis' death, was complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was survived by his sister, Maude S. Davis and his friend, Sohodra Nathu. Services were held at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Saturday, February 4, 2012 followed by a military burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
