Civil War Union Soldier. He began his Civil War service in April 24, 1861, when he enlisted in the three-month 3rd New Jersey Militia regiment. Mustered in as a Private in Company D on April 27, 1861, he served through the July 1861 First Bull Run Campaign (where his regiment was held in reserve) and was mustered out on July 31, 1861.


His wife, Lizzie V. Burd, filed for a United States Army widow's pension on June 19, 1889 (Application #397919, Certificate #321992).
