Adelia “Dee” Ness, 95, of Rice Lake died April 22 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rice Lake. Funeral services were April 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, with the Rev. Brian Mundt officiating and burial at Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake.
Mrs. Ness was born June 13, 1909 to Peter and Emma (Carlson) Larson in the Town of Stanfold, where she grew up and attended Oak Lawn Rural School. At the age of 16, she went to Chicago with five friends to work. Mrs. Ness’ first job was housekeeping for a wealthy family. She later was a waitress at several Chicago restaurants. After a few years, Mrs. Ness returned to Rice Lake to care for her mother. On Sept. 27, 1928 she married Peter Ness in Rice Lake. The couple moved to Brill and worked on a farm and then moved to Haugen, where they continued to work on a farm until 1947, when they bought their own farm and operated it until their retirement in 1970. Mrs. Ness and her husband then moved to Webb Lake and worked for Paffel Auctions for 7 years. Mrs. Ness’s husband died in 1987, and she then moved to Rice Lake.
