S. Robert Hammond, 94, formerly of Winona, died Friday, April 29, 2005, at his residence in Hattiesburg, after a brief illness. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Lee Funeral Home in Winona. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Winona with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Hammond lived most of his life in Winona, where he was a partner with his brother in Hammond's Wholesale for 41 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Winona for 62 years, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a Mason and a member of the Lion's Club. He served on the Winona Public School Board. He was a lifelong gardener and hunter, and maintained a vegetable garden until his death.

Mr. Hammond and his wife, Vivian Locke Hammond, moved to Hattiesburg in 1998, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hattiesburg and was active in Sunday School and AAA. He was a member of the Metropolitan Club in Hattiesburg. He served in Iceland in World War II and was a member of the VFW.

Mr. Hammond was preceded in death by his wife of over 68 years, Vivian Locke Hammond.
