The death angel has again entered our community and removes from our midst a life long resident and citizen.

James William Steele, son of J. W. Steele and Nancy Steel was born on March 19, 1852, departed this life, June 6, 1932, aged 80 years two months and thirteen days.

James went by the first name of William Steele, instead of James, maybe to distinguish himself from his father who had the name James.

He was married to Martha Ellen Mitchell on April 1, 1875.

To this union were born five children; Anna, of McArthur; James and Mae of Greendale; Edna of Laurelville; Harley of Columbus; and also Merlan of Michigan whom they have raised since infancy.

He leaves to mourn his departure his aged wife, six children, twenty-nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, also two brothers, Ben of Creola and John of New Plymouth and a host of relatives and friends. He united with the Ebenezer Church at the age of 40 years and continued a faithful member and attended services as long as his health permitted. He has suffered greatly in the past year, but bore his affliction patiently.

Although everything was done for him that human hands could do, it seemed to avail nothing, for God's will, not ours, will be done.

Oh how sweet when evening falls
And life's short day is o'er
To sink to sleep in Jesus arms
To wake on heaven's shore.
The night of death can not appall
For Christian spirits know
The grave is but a quiet rest
From all the toils below.
