He moved his family to the vicinity of Schweer, Iroquois County, Illinois in about 1875. He was one of 13 family heads to settle in that area, which was predominantly swamp land, and carve out prosperous farms. They founded the St. John's Evangelican Lutheran Congregation at Schweer and build the church building and a school building.
He helped build the railroad when it came to Watseka, Illinois and the area of Schweer.
He died in Milford, Iroquois County, Illinois. He is buried in the churchyard of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Woodworth, Iroquois County, Illinois.∼Born; Ockenhaussen, Germany
