Agnes Irene Wonders, 102, of Monticello

Agnes Irene Wonders, 102, of Monticello died at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005,
at Twin lakes Village Nursing Home, Monticello.

She was born at Hanna on July 30, 1902, to Samuel W. and Jessie Jane Hoover
Firth. She married Jabez Earl Wonders at Streator, Ill., in 1926. He is
deceased.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Salvation Army in Chicago Heights, Ill. She rang a bell
for the Salvation Army for more than 50 years. She was interviewed on television
and was known as ‘Grandma Wonder.' She was very active in the Salvation Army and
had been a Girl Guard leader. She was active in the youth organization.

She helped bake cookies during World War II, which were sent to soldiers
overseas.

She lived in Chicago Heights, Ill., most of her life and then moved to
Monticello in 1997.

Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth Jane Zarse of Monticello and Col. Ruth
Lois (Col. Robert) Bonifield of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Samuel J. (Joyce)
Wonders of Reynolds; 39 grandchildren; 99 great-grandchildren; 108
great-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-great-grandchildren.

An infant daughter, a grandson, two children, five stepchildren and two sisters
are deceased.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Steger Memorial Chapel in
Steger, Ill. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel in Steger,
Ill.

Burial will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Steger, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
