William was the son of Allen & Mary (Bolen) Hagler. He served as a Private for the Union during the Civil War, Company A, 9th Illinois Infantry.
After this discharge in 1865, William returned to Illinois to farm and married Harriett Goodwin on June 19, 1866 Jackson County, IL. William & Harriett had 3 children in Illinois: Charles, Harvey, and Mary.
Their mother resting in Jackson County soil, in the latter 1870s, William, brothers Isaac & John Logan, sister Susannah and their father Allen and their families all came to Saline County, Kansas. William became a merchant and then worked as a electrician and settled his little family and lived out his life on State St. in Salina.
