Donald Edward Baker, loving husband, father, and friend, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007.

Don had been fighting lung and brain cancer since January and his family moved back to be with him over the last year. They were with him at his bedside on his last day.

He was born Oct. 4, 1949 in Sunnyside, to Dorothy and Bud Baker. He was an only child and he spent his adolescent years in northern Washington with his parents and helping his grandfather, Noel, herd sheep. Don joined the U.S. Air Force in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War for three years.

He met his wife, Cindy, in 1974 at the Dairy Queen in Sunnyside. He knew she liked him because she would always give him extra dilly bars and french fries. They married on July 29, 1981 and had three amazing children together - Bradford, Amanda and Riley George.

Don loved to spend his time at the shooting range and shifting through Auto Trader magazines.

When he was diagnosed with the terminal illness he chose to fight it all the way through until the end.

Don was a very loving father.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cindy Baker; his three children, Bradford, Amanda and Riley George, all living in Grandview.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Baker; his father, Bud Baker; his uncle, Les Baker from Choteau, Mont.; and his grandparents, Elsie Clark and Noel Clark.

Don had requested to be cremated and that his ashes be spread up north, in Curlew.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the Valley Life Baptist Church, 609 W Bonneview Road, Grandview.

There will be a potluck to follow.

Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
