VALDESE - Mrs. Edith Whitener Young, 94, of Valdese, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Ridgeview Nursing Home in Jasper, Ala.
Mrs. Young was born Dec. 5, 1909, in Catawba County to the late Ellis and Lillie Abernethy Whitener.
She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Valdese.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Franklin Young; a son, James Edward "Jimmy" Young; three brothers; and a sister.
Surviving are a daughter, June Young Leonhardt and husband, Carson, of Jasper, Ala.; a son, Larry Ellis Young of Jasper, Ala; a brother, Millie Whitener of Hickory; two sisters, Eva Whitener Hildebran and Gladys Whitener Cline of Hickory; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Edith Whitener Young will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Providence Baptist Church, Hickory, with the Rev. Harold Whitener and Dr. Carson Moseley officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Young family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church.
