Udell John Roberts, 84, passed away Saturday, April 6 at his home in Liberty. He was born May 13, 1928, in Liberty, Idaho, the second to the youngest of seven children of David and Lottie Hymas Roberts. He grew up on the family farm in Liberty where he learned to work hard and love animals, especially horses.
He married Afton Eborn on January 8, 1947, in the Idaho Falls Temple. She proceeded him in death in 2001. To this union was born six children, 25 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Udell was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings including YM presidency, Sunday School presidency and serving as a missionary in the office of a Seventy, having been ordained by President Monson.
Udell and Afton worked at the Logan Temple for nine and a half years and really enjoyed their service there.
He worked hard to support his family. Besides running the dairy farm he also worked as a carpenter with Merrill Lewis and Worthy Beck, on the railroad, and for many years at Walton Feed. He had a real skill with animals, especially horses. He trained multiple teams of horses, which his family enjoyed, and loved to work with young colts. He also had a great love for his dogs.
He was very proud of his posterity and loved them. We are grateful for this love and his teachings. He was loved in return and will be missed greatly.
Udell is survived by his four children, Gary (Kitty) Roberts, Shane (Shauna) Roberts, and Laretta Roberts all of Liberty and Michele (Brian) Ulrich of Smithfield; a daughter-in-law, Suzann Parrish of Georgetown; 25 grandchildren; 40 great- grandchildren, and one sister, Illa Gerber. He was proceeded in death by his wife Afton, his parents, three brothers, two sisters and two sons, Craig and Karl.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at the Liberty Ward Church. A viewing will be held prior to the services at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery.Udell Roberts RGB
