Capt Parkhurst lived in the edge of Sharon, but had close business relations with Royalton. He was one of the original grantees and a man of influence. He represented Sharon in the General Assembly in 1780, 1793 and 1796. He was attending the session of the legislature at the time of the (Royalton) raid.

He served as Lieut in Capt Bush's Co., Col Joseph Marsh's Regt., 1777; aided in building Fort Fortitude in 1780; was Capt of a Sharon militia company in 1781.
