Charles I. ("Chuck") Black, 92, passed away Friday morning, February 22, 2013. Born on January 14, 1921, Chuck grew up in El Dorado, Arkansas, attended the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis, Tennessee, where he met Jean Scantland. They were married on June 21, 1943.

After graduating from medical school, he served in the United States Army and later moved to New Orleans for his dermatology residency. In 1951, Chuck and Jean settled in Baton Rouge where they raised their family and he practiced dermatology for forty years.

He is survived by Jean, his wife of 69 years, three children and their spouses Dr. Brad Black and his wife Cindy, Dr. Allen Black and his wife Claudia, and Janis Swyers and her husband Hardy. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Black, Daniel Black and wife Faye, Dr. Andrew Black and wife Dawn, Travis Black and wife Erin, Brett Brantley and wife Liz, Kristen Brantley Carney and husband Lee and Lauren Brantley Kees and husband Ben and 6 great grandchildren Bretton and Phoebe Brantley, Brantley and Ryland Carney, Benjamin Kees and Julian Black.

Chuck was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder and was active in the Medical Benevolence Foundation, the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society and numerous dermatology organizations. Pallbearers will be Brett Brantley, Andrew Black, Travis Black, Daniel Black, Lee Carney and Ben Kees.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 762 North Blvd. from 9:00 AM until service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Baton Rouge. Arrangements with Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., (225) 383-6831.
