"Bill" Bernard William Barkley, age 83, of California Township, Montgomery, Michigan, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at Lakeland Nursing Center, Angola, Indiana.

Mr. Barkley was born June 2, 1929 in Tuscola, Michigan, the son of Bernard and Verniece Marie (Kilborn) Barkley, they preceded him in death.

Mr. Barkley married Audrey M. (Wootke) on May 20, 1950, at Detroit, Michigan, she survives.

Mr. Barkley grew up in Vasser, Michigan. After attending school, he moved to Detroit, and later moved to Montgomery, Michigan in 1970.

He was a member of the California Presbyterian Church, Greenleaf Lodge # 349, Kinderhook, Mich., Moslem Shrine, Detroit, Mich., and the Scottish Rite Valley of Detroit.

He was a longtime conductor for the Norfolk & Western Railroad, and his hobbies included farming, and raising cattle.

He survived by his wife, Audrey M. Barkley of Montgomery, two sons, John and Peggy Barkley of Montgomery and Ron and Cindy Barkley of Montgomery; four grandchildren, Matthew, John, Elizabeth and Jerad; one sister, Margie and Floyd Hergenreder of Riverside, Calif.; and one brother, Silas Barkley of Taylor, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Verniece Marie Barkley, and one brother, John Barkley.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Case.

Burial will be California Cemetery, Branch County, Montgomery.
